Visual Indicators
When Low Power Mode is active during tracking:
- A yellow "Low Power Mode" label appears below the Recording/Paused status
- If auto-pin events are enabled, a waypoint is dropped when Low Power Mode turns on or off
Why These Changes?
In Low Power Mode, iOS throttles background activity including GPS updates. Rather than fight this (and drain your battery faster), Poreia:
- Reduces update frequency to ~100m intervals, which still captures your general path
- Saves after every point since updates are infrequent—this protects against data loss if iOS terminates the app
- Marks transitions with waypoints so you can see exactly where tracking quality changed
Track Quality
With ~100m updates, your track will have:
- Smoother curves instead of detailed paths
- Fewer points overall
- Accurate total distance (GPS still measures continuously)
For most activities, this is sufficient to capture your route.
Recommendations
- If you need high-accuracy tracking, keep your phone charged or avoid Low Power Mode
- Keep the app in the foreground for best results in Low Power Mode
- Check your saved track's waypoints to see if Low Power Mode affected any portion of your route
Exiting Low Power Mode
When you exit Low Power Mode (by charging or manually disabling it), normal tracking resumes automatically with your configured Travel Speed settings.
